More to come later...

Good Poem

I ran across this on another blog...(yes, I am stealing it)...it is a poem that Charles Swindoll read at Wheaton College:

It was Spring, but it was Summer I wanted:
The warm days and the great outdoors.
It was Summer, but it was Fall I wanted:
The colorful leaves and the cool, dry air.
It was Fall, but it was Winter I wanted:
The beautiful snow and the joy of the holiday season.
It was Winter, but it was Spring I wanted:
The warmth and the blossoming of nature.
I was a child, and it was adulthood I wanted:
The freedom and the respect.
I was 20, but it was 30 I wanted:
To be mature and sophisticated.
I was middle-aged, but it was 20 I wanted:
The youth and the free spirit.
I was retired, but it was middle-aged I wanted:
The presence of mind without limitations.
My life was over,
and I never got what I wanted.

Pickwick

I went to a conference for work today.  It was held at Pickwick Landing State Park.  The day started out rainy and grey...but eventually, the rain subsided, the sun came out, and a nice breeze blew.  I happened to have my camera with me...so I took some shots on my way out...

Here is the TN river and the Pickwick dam in the background (not to mention lots of beautiful clouds)...

On my way out.... (what a great name for a lane)

And...finally, a picture of a bell in a cemetary...(I thought it was an artsy statement...)

Mullets and Running...

This weekend I ran a 5K in Memphis...our agency hosts one every year during the month of April.  I always enjoy setting personal goals for myself....such as trying to finish without stopping...not killing myself...and not elbowing any of the other runners (on purpose...ha--not really).  Seriously though, I love running and it was nice to be accompanied this year by a fellow employee and his wife...

Jairus and Laura_1_1 Jairus and Laura_1_1 Jairusandlaura_1_1_1 okay...so that looks funny....the picture is really small and I can't resize it or else it gets blurry....but that's Jairus and his wife, Laura.

Here are Jairus and I after we finished...

Jairus and I--5K_2_1  (another small one)...

And finally...the highlight of the event....an 80s band from Memphis called the Funky Monkeys or something like that....or is it the Funky Monsters???  I think it's the latter.  And what's really funny...(or should I say "funky") is that I met one of the members of the Funky Monsters here tonight in Jackson, TN...it's a small world and strangely ironic as well.

Here are some pictures of the band...

IMG_3156_2_1 (Yes, you guessed correctly...there ARE dancing bricks in this photo...we mental health agencies get a little "crazy" at social events...)

singers_3_1 The singers...sporting a mullet wig (left) and signature 80s headband (right)...

And finally...a personal favorite...

guys in mullets_1_1_1 The lead singer whispering to the bass player...I bet he's complimenting him on his sweet royal blue vest.

Altogether...it was a fun weekend.
